🌟 The Krushka brothers
The Krushka brothers belong to the prospecting history behind Derby’s development as a tin-mining town. Their strike at what became the Briseis mine was among the important finds made during the rapid expansion of north-eastern Tasmania’s tin fields in the 1870s. Mines drew workers, investment and businesses into settlements that grew around the deposits. Derby’s later history includes dramatic changes in industry and recreation, but the brothers’ association reaches back to the mineral discovery that helped give the town its original purpose.
